The Role
We are looking for an experienced Policy & Public Affairs Director to define, build and lead this capability within Founders Comms. Sitting on the leadership team, this role combines senior client advisory work with commercial ownership and team development.
You will be responsible for shaping our public affairs proposition, winning and growing client relationships, and building a high-performing policy and public affairs team over time. You will work closely with the co-founders to position Founders Comms as a trusted strategic partner to founders navigating political, regulatory and stakeholder complexity as they scale.
This role suits someone who thrives in an entrepreneurial environment, brings strong political judgement and commercial instinct, and is motivated by the opportunity to build something meaningful from the ground up.
Working closely with the co-founders and wider team, you will:
Client leadership & delivery
- Lead senior-level public affairs and policy advice for clients, acting as a trusted advisor to founders and leadership teams.
- Develop and oversee strategic public affairs and policy programmes that support clients’ commercial objectives and scaling ambitions.
- Ensure high-quality execution across all client work, with clear priorities, accountability and measurable progress.
- Advise on broader corporate communications and reputation strategy where political and regulatory insight strengthens our work.
- Represent clients credibly with government, parliamentarians, regulators, industry bodies and wider stakeholders.
Proposition & business development
- Own and develop Founders Comms’ policy and public affairs proposition, shaping how we take it to market and how it evolves as the business grows.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities, working with the leadership team to convert relationships, networks and inbound interest into long-term client engagements.
- Contribute to pitches, proposals and commercial discussions, helping define scope, pricing and delivery models.
- Build strong relationships across the startup, scaleup and investor ecosystem, positioning Founders Comms as a go-to partner on public affairs and policy.
Team building & leadership
- Build, lead and mentor a growing policy and public affairs team, creating clear standards for quality, delivery and professional development.
- Support recruitment as the practice grows, helping shape the future structure and capabilities of the team.
- Foster a collaborative, high-trust culture that values both strategic thinking and hands-on delivery.
- Act as a role model for Founders Comms’ values, ways of working and commitment to balanced, sustainable careers.
The candidate will:
- Bring significant public affairs and policy experience, ideally gained across high growth environments, government or consultancy.
- Have a strong track record of advising senior stakeholders and navigating complex political, regulatory or reputational challenges.
- Demonstrate commercial acumen, with experience of contributing to business development, client growth and proposition building.
- Show excellent political judgement and the ability to translate complex policy issues into clear, practical advice for founders.
- Write and communicate to a high standard, with clarity, authority and pace.
- Be well connected within the startup, scaleup and tech ecosystem, with a strong understanding of the pressures facing growing companies.
- Combine strategic thinking with a willingness to roll up sleeves and deliver.

We are looking for an Associate to support our growing policy, public affairs and communications work. This role is ideal for someone at the beginning of their career with some experience in or around parliament, government, politics or public policy, who is keen to apply that experience in a fast-moving advisory environment.
You will play a key role in helping our clients understand and navigate the political and media landscape around them, while also supporting broader communications work across accounts. You’ll work closely with senior team members and co-founders, gaining exposure to founders, investors and high-growth companies at critical moments in their journey.
This role suits someone who is intellectually curious, highly organised and excited by variety - and therefore happy to move between policy, public affairs and communications work as needed.
Working closely with the team, you will:
- Track and interpret political, parliamentary and regulatory developments relevant to our clients, helping translate what’s happening into clear, timely insight.
- Support the development of public affairs and policy materials, including briefings, stakeholder notes, position papers and updates.
- Contribute to communications work across accounts, supporting media engagement, thought leadership and content development.
- Help maintain a clear view of the external environment for clients, bringing together political, media and stakeholder intelligence.
- Support stakeholder engagement activity, including research, preparation and follow-up.
- Help keep client accounts running smoothly, with strong attention to detail, deadlines and quality.
- Take increasing ownership over workstreams as your confidence and experience grow.
About You
The candidate will:
- Have some relevant experience, ideally including time in parliament, government, political research, public policy or a related advisory role.
- Show a strong interest in politics, policy and current affairs, with the ability to spot what matters and explain why.
- Be comfortable working across both public affairs and communications, with a willingness to learn new skills quickly.
- Write clearly and confidently, with the ability to adapt tone for different audiences.
- Be highly organised and detail-oriented, able to manage multiple pieces of work at once.
- Be proactive and reliable, with a strong sense of ownership over tasks.
- Be curious about startups, technology and scaling businesses, even if this is a new environment.

We are looking for a highly motivated, proactive, and strategic Founders Associate to become a central part of our ambitious advisory firm. This is not a traditional operations role - it’s a unique opportunity to sit close to the co-founders, influence how the business runs, and shape the future of a fast-growing and disruptive communications, policy and public affairs agency.
You will be the heartbeat of Founders Comms, keeping us moving, connecting the dots, and helping the team operate at its best. You’ll combine strategic thinking with hands-on delivery, making sure nothing falls between the cracks, processes are running smoothly, and key priorities are always on track.
This is a launchpad role: the right person will grow into Chief of Staff, taking on greater strategic responsibility and oversight, and leading the operational and strategic engine of a high-growth advisory business.
Working closely with the co-founders you will:
Strategic support & priority management
- Act as a trusted right hand to the co-founders, helping keep the company’s strategic priorities on track.
- Anticipate blockers, streamline decision-making, and ensure key initiatives move from idea to execution.
- Take ownership of internal projects that strengthen howthe business operates and scales.
Operations & rhythm
- Ensure the day-to-day running is seamless, from systems and processes to workflows and team coordination.
- Make our ways of working smarter, simpler, and more effective so the team can focus on delivering for clients.
Onboarding & experience
- Own the end-to-end onboarding experience for clients,team members, and consultants, setting a consistent standard that reflects howwe work.
- Continuously refine and improve these experiences as the business grows.
Fractional services & people management
- Initially oversee fractional support services, including finance and people, ensuring they run efficiently and align with the agency’s growth needs.
- As the business scales, recruit, manage, and develop full-time team members to take on these functions, embedding strong systems, processes, and culture.
Systems, tools & data
- Oversee and coordinate the tools, platforms, and data the team relies on, ensuring they are reliable, fit for purpose, and secure.
- Identify and implement smarter ways of working, including leveraging AI tools and automation to improve efficiency, reduce friction, and scale processes as the business grows.
- Help embed new systems and ways of working that allow the business to operate seamlessly, even as complexity increases.
Business insight & reporting
- Monitor performance across the business and support the co-founders with reporting, dashboards, and insights to inform decision-making.
- Help surface opportunities to improve, innovate, and anticipate challenges before they arise.
